My bullet journal is how I structure my life. I use it as a to-do list, a 'have done' record, a food journal, a journal journal, and occasionally a doodle-book.
While it's worked for me wonderfully, finally getting me past feeling like I failed every time a month went by without so much as touching the latest planner attempt, the biggest piece of advice I can give to anyone considering using the bullet journal method is:
Keep It Simple!
Stick to the basics. After about three years of bullet journaling I tried a new style of notebook, and at about the same time I started really letting myself draw in it.
The #bujo world is a rabbit hole of pretty pictures, fun stickers and clever ideas. It's a combination of cool things that really work for some people, and people who are attempting to become internet famous with their pretty spreads.
The entire idea is that this is a journal that is supposed to work for you. Try to avoid thinking that it's making you do the work of pretty planner design on top of organizing your life.
The way it works was built with ADHD brains in mind, and I can say it works well with mine.
Rather than walk you through how the bullet journal works here, I've found a few pages online that keep the examples simple and am linking to them below.

For anyone checking in from bujo world who wants the scoop on what I'm using and how (once again, not my recommendations for beginners):
I've been using a discbound journal for nearly the past year and am really enjoying the flexibility of being able to move pages around (though I'm using that sparingly). I'm using some reasonably heavy-weight paper and my go-to fountain pen (a Jinhao X750, cheap but functional and seems to be holding up well) I'm rotating through various ink samples that friends have sent me at the moment. I'm planning on binding my old journals at some point. I haven't decided how I'm going to split them up (by year, by quarter, by half a year??) but I like the idea of keeping my discs in play and my journal consistant. Until I bind the old ones together, I've been migrating things forward at the end of a month and moving a month of pages into another journal, that's waiting to be more permanantly bound together. We'll see how that project goes!
